CCS' Position on Taxi Fare Increases

On 6 December 2011, ComfortDelgro announced revisions to its taxi fares. SMRT Taxis followed with a similar announcement on 13 December 2011.
 
Concerns have been raised about potential price-fixing behaviour arising from these announcements. CCS reiterates that price-fixing among businesses is illegal and opens them up to investigation and possible financial penalties under the Competition Act. Any party with information or evidence of such anti-competitive behaviour should report the matter to CCS.
 
Businesses should comply with the provisions in the Competition Act, which states the types of behaviour that are prohibited because they are considered to be anti-competitive. Any party who wants to know whether a specific behaviour is considered anti-competitive should seek legal advice, or file a notification for guidance or decision with CCS.
