CCS Assistant Chief Executive

Pang attended the 6th ACC hosted

by the Office of Trade Competition

Commission. Mr. Lee presented on

“Detecting and Preventing Cartels

– Effective Approaches” and shared

CCS’s cartel detection methods.

FUND PROGRAM IN HO CHI

MINH, VIETNAM

CCS Director (Business &

Economics), Mr. Herbert Fung

was a presenter at the Sub-

Regional Workshop “Investigative

Techniques on Merger Review”,

organised as part of the Japan-

ASEAN Integration Fund Program.

CCS Deputy Director (Legal),

Ms. Stephanie Panayi also

participated as a presenter.

CONFERENCE IN SELANGOR,

MALAYSIA

8-9 March 2017

On Day 1 of the conference, CCS

Chief Executive, Mr. Toh Han Li

moderated the panel discussion

on “ASEAN’s Young Competition

Agencies – the Tough Get Going”.

At the panel “Competition and

Innovation –Too Soon, Too Fast”

on Day 2, he spoke about how

competition agencies can stay

relevant in the digital economy.

19TH MEETING OF THE AEGC

IN YANGON, MYANMAR

3-7 April 2017

At the 19th Meeting of the ASEAN

Experts Group on Competition

(“AEGC”), CCS played an active

role in discussing plans for several

new initiatives that it would lead

under the ASEAN Competition

Action Plan. The chairmanship of

the AEGC for 2017 was handed

over from Laos to Myanmar. In

2018, Singapore will assume the

AEGC chairmanship.

CCS hosted a visit from two

representatives of China’s

National Development and

Reform Commission (“NDRC”):

Deputy Director-General (“DDG”),

Mdm. Li Qing and Director of

the Price Supervision and Anti-

Monopoly Bureau (“Bureau”), Mr.

Zhu Kai. DDG Li and Mr. Zhu also

participated in CCS’s Singapore

Business Breakfast Dialogue.

GENERAL VISITS CCS

NDRC Director General of the

Bureau, Mr. Zhang Handong

visited CCS for the first time by

invitation of CCS Chief Executive,

Mr. Toh Han Li. The two agencies

discussed the enforcement of

fair competition and recent

competition developments in

China and Singapore.

(“HKCC”)

HKCC Chief Economist, Mr. Dennis

Beling conducted an auto-fuel

study workshop at CCS. Mr. Beling

and the CCS retail petrol case

team also exchanged views on

similar issues faced in the retail

auto-fuel market in Hong Kong

and Singapore.

AEGC WORKSHOP ON

COMPETITION ECONOMICS

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

7-9 February 2017

CCS Director (Policy & Markets),

Dr. Tan Hi Lin and Competition

Analyst, Ms. Germaine Goh

attended the AEGC Workshop

on Competition Economics.

During the workshop, CCS gave

a keynote address outlining the

importance of economics in the

implementation of competition law.
