ASEAN Regulators' Roundtable at GCR Live in Singapore
Seven ASEAN competiton law enforcers gathered at the Global Competition Review (GCR) Live Singapore 7th Annual Asia-Pacific Law Leaders Forum on 9 March 2018. The ASEAN regulators' roundtable discussed the development of competition law and cooperation in the region, focus markets, as well as the enforcement of competition laws in each jurisdiction.
As Chair for the ASEAN Experts Group on Competition (AEGC) in 2018, CCS Chief Executive Mr Toh Han Li shared on the initiatives to be rolled out by AEGC in 2018, which include developing the terms of reference on what the ASEAN Competition Enforcers' Network will do, as well as its composition. Other specific initiatives include the regional cooperation framework which could serve as a set of aspirational guidelines for ASEAN Member States to cooperate on competition cases in future.
In addition, as Chair of the AEGC, CCS will be exploring the possibility of working with several new partners who will be able to assist ASEAN in its capacity building efforts. The AEGC will also review ongoing technical assistance programmes with our existing partners including Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Japan. AEGC is also in talks with the EU and the OECD on new programmes for the ASEAN.
